 PT Garam Sets Target of Production, Streaming to Manufacturing Processes

Jakarta, October 10, 2018/Indonesia Media – State-owned salt producer PT Garam (Persero) was present, participating in an exhibition of IBD Expo (3rd – 6th October 2018) in Grand City, Surabaya, East Java, while promoting the rejuvenation of the company to the production stream closer to manufacturing processes. “Since I was assigned for a director, we manage PT Garam by improving the industry, from downstream to upstream,” said the executive director of PT Garam Budi Sasongko during the visit PT Garam booth at the exhibition.

The corporate took steps to maximize the existing land of salt, and extend the new ones in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province. “This year, PT Garam has set the target of production, increasing by 350.000 tons. The production has achieved by 250.000 tons by September,” said Budi Sasongko who started his career in PT Garam for 23 years.

With an increase of production by this year, the corporate expects to achieve the production more than 500.000 tons by 2020. The demand of salt for consumption in domestic market reached 1,2 million tons every year, and salt for industrial (pharmaceutical, mining, fertilizers, etc.) reach 4 million tons per year. “An effort made to boost productivity, we plan to build another three factories in 2019. This will be helpful to increase the capacity by 150.000 tons. The first additional factory will be established in Gresik (East Java),” said Budi Sasongko.

Target profit in 2018 was expected to achieve equal with the amount in 2017, namely Rp 185 billion. To improve competitiveness in upstream market for end user, PT Garam also has developed products and market with the brand Lososa. The product is helpful to prevent hypertension, full of nutrition, maintain the stability in liquid dosage, adequate nutrition. (sl/IM)
