Indonesia works to raise leprosy awareness ( video )


Government works to assist leprosy victims, many of whom live in secrecy and isolation due to discrimination.

Millions of leprosy patients around the world live with an illness that often sparks fear and misunderstanding.

In Indonesia, which has the world’s third-largest population of leprosy victims, thousands still live in shame, secrecy and isolation.

The government, with the help of the military, is trying to educate, diagnose and eradicate the disease. for some, the effort may have come too late.

Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen reports from Indonesia’s West Sumatra.
