Parimo, July 23, 2021/Indonesia Media – An effort made by companies in order to increase productivity of shrimp farming in Parigi Moutong (Parimo) regency, Central Sulawesi (Sulteng), PT Parigi Aquakultura Prima (PAP) has seen the urgency to develop the model design of ponds. So far, there have been some designs of ponds; traditional, semi-intensive, intensive, superintensive. “Lands are abundant throughout Indonesia. But (the land) for aquaculture has to be adjusted with the mission and target of the company. We do not only develop the ponds, because shrimp farming needs a very serious treatment,” said the Director of PAP Rudy Hartanto Wibowo

Yields and productivity of aquaculture including shrimp farming is comprised of several factors; topography, hydrology, design of land. The design of ponds and water management for processing contribute to productivity. “We can see the process of water recirculation and other things. Our ponds were designed to be sustainable (production) with quarantine tandon, treatment tandon and also wastewater treatment plant (IPAL),” said Rudy Hartanto Wibowo.

With IPAL, the wastewater will be treated perfectly. Before the wastewater is removed, there is a quality management standard for water. IPAL consists of the process of gritting, solubilizing bacteria. Besides, milkfish, black nila, tilapia perform the function of biological filtration. “The fishes which live in IPAL, as a result of effective processing of wastewater treatment,” said Rudy Hartanto Wibowo.

PAP applies the scheme to sustainable shrimp production, and parallel with the local economic empowerment, especially the poor who live around the farming. Therefore, there will be a plan to build an ice factory for postharvest. At the moment, people get ice from Makassar city which is very far from the farming. Ice melts and affects postharvest processing due to the long delivery times. Ice factory will also help local people, especially fishermen, traditional farmers,” said Rudy Hartanto Wibowo.

PAP wishes the local government would contribute to build an ice factory. PAP, together with the local government, central government, seek to find solutions, including electricity. Green and clean electricity is advised for generating electricity. “Some Mountainous areas in Nepal, as what I have ever seen, generate electricity from waterfall, dams,” said Rudy Hartanto Wibowo.
