Census Bureau Releases 2010 Census Demographic Profiles for Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho,

Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio,

Puerto Rico and Wisconsin

The U.S. Census Bureau today released the Profile of General Population and Housing Characteristics: 2010 for Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Puerto Rico and Wisconsin. The demographic profiles provide 2010 Census data on age and sex distributions, race, Hispanic or Latino origin, household relationship and type, the group quarters population, and housing occupancy and tenure (whether the housing occupant owns or rents). Throughout May, these profiles are being released on a rolling basis for all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

The profile includes more than 150 data items in all, plus percentage distributions.

Alaska

• The median age was 33.8.
• The average household size was 2.65 people per household.
• Among the state’s occupied housing units, 63.1 percent were owned, compared with 36.9 percent that were rented.

 

Arizona

• The median age was 35.9.
• The average household size was 2.63 people per household.
• Among the state’s occupied housing units, 66.0 percent were owned, compared with 34.0 percent that were rented.

 

California

• The median age was 35.2.
• The average household size was 2.90 people per household.
• Among the state’s occupied housing units, 55.9 percent were owned, compared with 44.1 percent that were rented.

Connecticut

• The median age was 40.0.
• The average household size was 2.52 people per household.
• Among the state’s occupied housing units, 67.5 percent were owned, compared with 32.5 percent that were rented.

Georgia

• The median age was 35.3.
• The average household size was 2.63 people per household.
• Among the state’s occupied housing units, 65.7 percent were owned, compared with 34.3 percent that were rented.

Idaho

• The median age was 34.6.
• The average household size was 2.66 people per household.
• Among the state’s occupied housing units, 69.9 percent were owned, compared with 30.1 percent that were rented.

Minnesota

• The median age was 37.4.
• The average household size was 2.48 people per household.
• Among the state’s occupied housing units, 73.0 percent were owned, compared with 27.0 percent that were rented.

Montana

• The median age was 39.8.
• The average household size was 2.35 people per household.
• Among the state’s occupied housing units, 68.0 percent were owned, compared with 32.0 percent that were rented.

New Hampshire

• The median age was 41.1.
• The average household size was 2.46 people per household.
• Among the state’s occupied housing units, 71.0 percent were owned, compared with 29.0 percent that were rented.

 

New York

• The median age was 38.0.
• The average household size was 2.57 people per household.
• Among the state’s occupied housing units, 53.3 percent were owned, compared with 46.7 percent that were rented.

 

Ohio

• The median age was 38.8.
• The average household size was 2.44 people per household.
• Among the state’s occupied housing units, 67.6 percent were owned, compared with 32.4 percent that were rented.

Puerto Rico

• The median age was 36.9.
• The average household size was 2.68 people per household.
• Among Puerto Rico’s occupied housing units, 71.6 percent were owned, compared with 28.4 percent that were rented.

Wisconsin

• The median age was 38.5.
• The average household size was 2.43 people per household.
• Among the state’s occupied housing units, 68.1 percent were owned, compared with 31.9 percent that were rented.

In addition to the state-level data, demographic profiles are available for other areas down to the place/functioning minor civil division-level. Profiles for the nation, regions and divisions will be available at the end of May with the final states’ releases.

The characteristics data found in the demographic profiles will be available for additional levels of geography, such as census tracts or blocks, as part of the next 2010 Census data product, Summary File 1, to be released on a state-by-state flow basis between June and August.
