2024 IG Indonesia as a Significant Effort to Develop Domestic Manufacturing Industry

Jakarta, September 27, 2024/Indonesia Media – The 2024 Indonesia Exhibition on Gases Technology, Equipment and Applications or IG Indonesia held at Swissotel, PIK (Pantai Indah Kapuk) is believed to provide benefits for the development of the domestic manufacturing industry, and significant efforts to meet the domestic industrial gas needs of 1.4 million tons per year. IG Indonesia, sponsored by the China IG Members Alliance (CIGMA), the Indonesian Industrial Gas Association (AGII) and others, prioritizes gas to support the industry. Gases such as Oxygen (O2), Nitrogen (N2) and Argon (Ar) are important materials in various industries. “O2 is mainly used for the steel industry. N2 for petrochemicals, and Argon for welding . Argon used to be widely used for light bulbs. But now, the lighting industry is increasingly using LEDs ( light-emitting diodes ),” said Imam Syofwan from Ace Gases Malaysia.
Industrial gas is different from natural gas, including types and uses. Types of natural resources with their differences, including LNG, LPG. In addition, the use of natural gas for fuel. But the gas industry in IG Indonesia exhibits gas to support the industry. Especially multinational Chinese industrial gas producers, dominate IG Indonesia. In addition, there are several multinational players from India, Malaysia and so on. “The local player, Samator Group. Multinational players, especially from China, on average have engineering center facilities. China dominates industrial gas, so it has the potential to market to Indonesia, India and so on. While domestic gas producers who are active in the gas industry do not yet have engineering center facilities. This is also a challenge for AGII,” said Imam.
In the same place, Husnimar from PT Surya Biru Murni Acetylene (SBM) saw the direct benefits of participating in IG Indonesia, especially the opportunity to ask questions directly to Chinese exhibitors whose gas equipment technology is already very advanced. In addition, Husnimar also received references regarding the use of industrial gas for power plants and so on. “IG Indonesia, there is a conference and exhibition. We can see directly the equipment for SBM as a service provider and gas manufacturer. Because the technology of equipment (industrial gas) does not exist in Indonesia, only in China, India and Europe,” said Husnimar.
Several gas producers from China participated in the exhibition, including from Sichuan, Hangzhou, Xinxiang, Shenzhen and so on. Even the Zhejiang Jinhua Air Separation Equipment booth placed a mock up (replica) plant. The initial design to production, installation and commissioning process can be studied through the display of the Zhejiang Jinhua factory mock up. Zhejiang gas equipment technology has also entered the market of countries in the Middle East, including Iran, Iraq. “We can interact directly with manufacturers. In addition, the equipment displayed is very varied, starting from the smallest, such as valves , cylinders to gas and liquid production equipment. Incidentally, our factory (SBM) also mostly uses equipment from China,” said Husnimar.
Meanwhile, the All India Industrial Gases Manufacturers’ Association (AIIGMA) also expressed its appreciation to the committee, especially CIGMA and AGII, who successfully organized IG Indonesia. During the two-day conference and exhibition, participants from AIIGMA had the opportunity to exchange thoughts, ideas, and experiences to further advance their industrial gas. The exhibition also provided an opportunity for visitors to interact with the gas industry and its supporters in Indonesia. “We would like to thank Mr. Frank Xu (President of CIGMA) who has consistently organized events such as IG Indonesia for 20 years. AIIGMA is also greatly assisted, so that it routinely attends similar events in other countries,” said AIIGMA president, Saket Tiku.
Husnimar also expressed the same thing, namely that there is an opportunity to build networking with domestic and foreign gas industry business players. He also admitted that he had met with a senior player, namely Imam Syofwan. In fact, at his age which is no longer young, Imam was still recruited by a Malaysian company (Ace Gases Sdn Bhd). “He is very knowledgeable, especially special gas industry and liquid. While I am still very junior, only 10 years in the gas business. Mr. Imam’s experience is more than 30 years, not only gas industry but also related industries such as steel, oil. My other colleagues and I want to consult by phone with Mr. Imam. Because after IG Indonesia, we have to return to Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan (SBM office and factory),” said Husnimar, which was agreed by his colleague from SBM, Rahadian Firdaus. (LS/IM)
