Indonesians in Malaysia Protest Bendera

KUANTAN, – About 500 Indonesian nationals in Kuantan and Temerloh held peaceful protests Friday against their fellow countrymen, who call themselves Benteng Demokrasi Rakyat (Bendera) or People’s Democratic Front, for staging a series of anti-Malaysia demonstrations in Jakarta following border incident near Indonesia’s Bintan Island on Aug 13. Kuantan police chief ACP Mohd Jasmani Yusoff said about 300 Indonesian nationals in Kuantan gathered here from 11.30am for about 20 minutes before they were dispersed by the police.

“They just wanted to voice out their opinions on the actions taken by their fellow countrymen in Indonesia and they have the right to do so,” he told reporters here Friday.

Meanwhile, Temerloh deputy police chief Supt Zundin Mahmood said another 200 Indonesian workers in Temerloh also gathered at the Lurah Semantan bus terminal in protest of Bendera’s actions. He said the peaceful protest started at 11am and lasted for about 20 minutes.
