Police arrest two suspected terrorists

The National Police counterterrorism squad arrested on Saturday two suspected terrorists but missed another during a raid on a house in Pasirbiru subdistrict in the West Java capital of Bandung.

The two suspects, identified by local residents as Hamzah and Fahri, were immediately taken to the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta by car, Antara reported.

Local residents said about 20 officers from the squad, known as Special Detachment 88, besieged the house rented by the three people at about 11:00 a.m. No gunfire was heard during the arrest, a neighbor, Kustiati, said.

Fahri and Hamzah had tried to escape the arrest, but were captured at the backyard. The other suspect, identified as Helmi, managed to flee.

“I know the man who is wearing glasses is Fahri and the other one is Hamzah if I’m not mistaken,” Kustiati said, adding that the two young men, aged about 20, rarely talked to local residents.

Kustiati said Helmi introduced himself to neighbors as leather handcraft and key holder producer and Fahmi and Hamzah as his employees.

The three men, Kustiati added, had been rarely seen at home and kept the lamp outside the house on during daylight.
