Jade mining ban in western China ( video )


As gemstone reserves run low in western China, prices are spiking and miners losing their jobs.
As jade reserves run low in western China, the government has now banned mining of the gemstone in parts of the town of Hotan.
The situation is threatening the livelihood of miners, and the scarcity of the gemstone has forced the price of jade up to 10,000 times more than it was 30 years ago.
Al Jazeera’s Melissa Chan reports from Hotan, western China.
