Bogor, June 21, 2025/Indonesia Media – Collagen derived from catfish’ skin has a structure of protein and can be used as a potential alternative to cosmetic industry, especially skin rejuvenation and blush makeup with a formula either light or thick, in which women often use for confident appearance or the project of a special effect (SFX) makeup artist. So far, the cosmetic in Indonesia is commonly used for aesthetics (esthetics). Meanwhile, in foreign countries, cosmetic products which are particularly sourced from collagen are commonly used for both skin rejuvenation and aesthetics. “ingredients of cosmetics are collagen, and products with collagen improves the general condition of the skin and delays the aging process by reducing the depth of wrinkles, improving skin density and elasticity. Therefore catfish collagen is very prospective business, comparing with (condition) that catfish farmers can only distribute to (catfish) traders in wet markets throughout Indonesia,” said the founder of Indonesia representative of France Orlane cosmetics, Susanna or Poei An-nio
Collagen is the main component of human and animal skin and is widely distributed in connective tissues such as bone, skin, tendon and cartilage. It has the functions of supporting organs, strengthening internal organs and protecting the body. Collagen derived from catfish, covering 80 – 89 percent of the skin protein in total. The molecular structure of catfish collagen is smaller compared to mammalian collagen such as cow, that (catfish) can be easily absorbed into the human body. “Local cosmetic producing companies just distribute, trade the the ones for aesthetics, but not rejuvenation. In foreign countries, people try to find both kinds (aesthetics and rejuvenation),” said Susanna who was born in September 1945
Having realized the prospective market, Susanna and fish farming expert, Vergina Andini (Dini) are organizing training session to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge to effectively train others. The programs focus on developing catfish farming. The programs also target retired government employees and private company employees who need to give contribution to people, the families who reside in Bogor or neighbouring towns. “The goal of the activity, we really target the participants who wish to grow catfish farming. The processing industry for catfish skin and its collagen is prospective for the export market. Meanwhile Vergina Andini has expertise in processing and fish farming.
