Indonesia to Take Decision of Stability with Maritime Affairs on Strategic Issue

Jakarta, May 9, 2026/Indonesia Media – Geopolitical dynamics with the tensions heating up, has really placed maritime affairs on the strategic issue of redefining the global influence. Indonesia, as the largest archipelago country, is on the crucial point to take decision of stability and flow of global trade. This is the important matter, raising up during the public lecture with its topics ‘Maritime strategic transformation within the dynamics of regional geopolitics’ which was held by Indonesia Ministry of Marine and Fisheries Affairs (KKP), by the the Agency for Marine and Fisheries Extension and Human Resources Development (BPPSDM KP) in  Jakarta Technical University of Fisheries (AUP)
Admiral (Ret.) Professor Marsetio, when giving the presentation, underlines that Indo – Pacific currently has become an epicenter of global tension, triggered by either open conflict or potential conflict among big countries. He reiterated that global escalation, from the war between Russia – Ukraine, middle east conflicts, and South China sea and Taiwan straits conflict has really given direct impact to economic stability and world maritime security
“Nowadays, the sea is not merely a transport route, but also a strategy of global economic ramifications. Those who conquer the sea, they themselves take control of logistics, energy and global economy,” said Marsetio
He reiterated that the position of Indonesia is very strategic as the front-line country which take control of world’s major choke-points, especially straits of Malacca in which more than ninety thousand vessels moving to and fro per year. It really turns to be one of the most vital global energy route.
But, there is an opportunity beneath the situation, there is a big challenge of ship traffic crowds, potential conflicts and risks of environmental security. “Indonesia is not only merely a spectator within maritime geopolitics, but a definitive balancer. We are on the way to drive, and to swing global power balance,” he said. (LS/IM)
