Cerritos, Saturday November 27, 2010/Indonesia Media. At Cerritos Baptist Church “The Wiguna Project” CD Release Event turned into an all-out rock concert sensation when the band performed some of the songs from their first album, Give Us the Weekend. An opening act from Ben Clements got the audience excited, but when “The Wiguna Project” stepped on stage people started screaming like no tomorrow. The band is founded by three brothers: Jeff Wiguna (23), Jason Wiguna (21), and Justin Wiguna (18). They are all American born Chinese from Chinese Indonesian parents. Their main genre of music is pop/rock. All the brothers have learned a variety of instruments that branch out from their initial piano lessons from when they were children. Jeff mainly plays the piano/keyboard, while Jason plays the bass and Justin plays the drums.
Music is a strong bond they share with each other and their father, Rif, who is a member of the local Indonesia band NYA (a.k.a. Not Young Anymore). Â Jeff has already graduated from UC Berkeley and is now working full time in Chicago, while Jason is a junior majoring in Pre-med in UCLA and Justin is a senior at Cerritos High School. Though they may be separated from one another at times, their bond as brothers and their love for music was clearly evident during their performance.
During their time at Cerritos High School, all the brothers created bands with groups of their friends. Now as a way to reflect their passion for music and to see how far they can go with it, they created their own band called “The Wiguna Project.” After countless 12 hour sessions and 7 months of mixing and mastering, “The Wiguna Project” finally had their first album titled “Give Us The Weekend.” The album contains five original songs; four of them are written by Jeff and one is written by Justin. Songs on the album are 1) Give Us the Weekend, 2) Fly Away, 3) True Heavenly, 4) I Don’t Wanna Hear, and 5) Homecoming. Their album, Give Us the Weekend, is now available for sale for $5 each and $1 from the proceeds of each CD will be donated to the International Youth Foundation. So watch out for the Wiguna Project they may just make you scream for them too.
