Tay Kak Sie Semarang’s Charity Event Keeps Up Religious Tolerance

Semarang, January 27, 2024/Indonesia Media – Organizers believed the charity, an effort to distribute angpao (money wrapped in red packaging as a gift) and food packages in a Chinese temple, Tay Kak Sie Semarang city (Central Java) turns into exclusive religious tolerance as the event has been established for 25 years. Besides, a positive aspect of doing the event is improving towards elderly persons who suffer from serious sickness, living alone as their kids do not spend time with them. “This year, we visit them (elderly persons as recipients) who are sick in their homes. One of them is having a stroke. We distribute angpao and food packages straight to their homes. We are more open promoting tolerance and exclusiveness towards outsiders (of Tay Kak Sie temple) who wish to participate, give donations. As elderly persons who receive charities, coming from different ethnicities, religions,” said the temple (Tay Kak Sie)’s charitable organization advisor, Sianti Mayasari (薛祥云)
The charity was one of the series of the celebration of Chinese new year 2024, looking forward to the year of the wood dragon. During the event, the weather was bright and sunny, in which elderly persons waited in a queue to get angpao from 8 till 12 o’clock. Some of them were helped by another organizer since their inability to walk. The target of charity receivers is actually elderly persons in Semarang. They received charities after the organizer collected data so those charities would meet the target, (namely) elderly persons who are needy. All recipients, especially those who have been included in a list of data, amounting to approximately 2000 (two thousand) persons. Anyway, if there is a newly registered recipient, (he/she) was directed to submit his/her identity cards. “the event started around eight o’clock and finished around twelve o’clock. The event is well prepared and organized, is due to the contribution of generous wealthy people, donators. They spontaneously share charities, and we just organize the event effectively. Realizing that all religions teach the same thing, that if we give and share resources of money, or another form of support, we will earn in return.
