Miss Asia USA 2009 — 21st Annual Cultural Pageant
Mrs. Asia USA 2009 – 5th Annual Cultural Pageant
Alex Theatre — Glendale, California – June 13, 2009
A sellout crowd of over 1400 people at the Alex Theatre witnessed history in the making as the 21st Annual Miss Asia USA and the 5th Annual Mrs. Asia USA Cultural Pageant were presented together onstage for the first time ever. Never before has such a remarkable and diverse display of Asian cultures been performed on a single stage. Following months of painstaking preparation by each Delegate, what at first seemed impossible became a magnificent reality on Saturday night with the crowning of two outstanding and deserving Queens. After five categories of intense competition in both pageants, our distinguished panel of judges selected the stunning Geramie Dizon representing the Philippines as Miss Asia USA 2009 and the lovely and talented Kimberly Vodang representing Vietnam as Mrs. Asia USA 2009. Virgelia B. Villegas, Chairman & President of the producer, Virgelia Productions, Inc., both wrote and directed the show. When discussing the two new Queens after the show, Virgelia reflected on the Judges’ selection. She said, “Both Geramie and Kimberly were totally committed to performing at their best. Each of them worked extremely hard to demonstrate self-confidence, intelligence and elegance for the Judges and the audience when onstage. To earn these prestigious titles for Asian women in America, you have to be willing to put forth a complete effort above and beyond your God-given abilities. Both these outstanding and talented women did so and I am proud that they will serve all of the unique and proud Asian communities as Ambassadors of Goodwill and Culture. As our Queens, they will continue the proud tradition of these two pageants demonstrating how to bring unity through diversity.”
Virgelia went on to say, “I am extremely pleased and proud of all of our wonderful Delegates and I offer them my sincerest gratitude for their participation and hard work. Coordinating and directing two pageants at once on the same stage was incredibly challenging. Up until the last minute, I wasn’t sure we could pull it off. Thanks to the Delegates, our generous sponsors, our staff and our fantastic hosts, Emmy-nominee David Millbern and the up and coming Ayushka Gharib, if the audience’s reactions were any indication, we did it with flying colors.”
Virgelia also announced the Queen’s Court for Miss Asia USA 2009 and Mrs. Asia USA 2009 :
