Banten, November 5, 2024/Indonesia Media – Digital marketing that uses social media platforms (sosmed) and networking websites to promote an organization’s products or services without paying is one of the effective strategies of taro beneng leaf producers in Serang, Banten Province. “There was a Taiwanese person who had time to browse social media, especially my Facebook account. He was interested in various posts on taro beneng cultivation activities from upstream to downstream,” the producer of sliced taro leaves, Kang Arif told the Editors.

Since a few years ago, he believes that social media has become an important part of a very popular means of communication. He uses different platforms and promotional features, continuing to learn which strategies are most effective in achieving results. In addition, he has managed a Youtube channel with various contents, especially agricultural extension materials and activities. “Several people, including James Chang from Gracientia Technology Ltd. who has an office in Taipei, Taiwan, were interested and got my WhatsApp number. He made an appointment to come directly to the location of Saung Talas Beneng. He consulted, starting from the production process, quality, quantity to export prospects,” said the owner of the Youtube Channel Kang Arif.

For the cooperation plan with Gracientia, he also assured James Chang of various facilities including laboratory tests (lab) with several taro samples. As a laboratory for quarantine examination, part of the quality assurance of services in the form of a Health Certificate (HC), Phytosanitary Certificate (PC). Thus, objective accountability can be parallel with international standardization through lab test activities. “Mr. James Chang cannot speak Indonesian, but there is a translator. We had time to take several taro samples for lab tests, as well as discussions with the team. He is also convinced that the results of lab tests are an absolute requirement to be able to enter the Taiwanese market,” said Arif, an alumnus of the Agrotechnology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Respati Indonesia University (URINDO).

On the other hand, several taro producers in Serang, Banten Province are increasingly seeing the important process of assessment of business development, labor needs, production order quantity and so on for the progress of the company. Based on the assessment, producers can determine and obtain commitments such as Purchase Orders (PO) with export companies. “There is a limit to our production capacity to build commitments with business partners, buyers and exporters. The problem of raw material availability, a minimum of three quintals, automatically does not enter (the commitment) of the exporter’s PO,” said the Agricultural Extension Officer of Serang Regency.
