Indonesia’s Aceh rebuilt after 2004 tsunami


With nearly 140,000 houses and infrastructure reconstructed, focus turns to improving area’s tsunami warning system.

Nine years after a tsunami devastated Indonesia’s Aceh province, foreign aid has helped the region bounce back.

A $7.2bn aid programme saw the reconstruction of entire towns.

The focus is now turning from reconstruction to improving the area’s tsunami warning system.
