The Asian Pacific American is everyone's pussycat. We must SHOW some claws. Otherwise, we'll be PERMANENT second class citizens.

How are APAs to demonstrate our political clout??? By demonstrating that we have the ability to reward politicians who share our RIGHTFUL concerns and punish those who don't.

That is, to exercise the "power of the Ballot box," guaranteed to us by our Constitution.

The OPEN Presidential primary in Calif. on 3/7/00 is an ideal occasion for us to demonstrate our clout.

80-20's Steering Committee voted UNANIMOUSLY to support SENATOR BRADLEY in the presidential primary, focusing particularly on the CA primary on March 7, 2000.

Mind you, it doesn't matter if we back a "wrong" candidate. The important thing is that we DEMONSTRATE our strength. If we are united, our victory is GUARANTEED.

Reasons for supporting BRADLEY in the primary are as follow:

1. BRADLEY has strongly committed to 80-20 to help APAs achieve equal opportunity in workplaces upon his becoming president. Gore has not. He didn't even bother to reply to 80-20's repeated inquiries.
2. Although Sen. McCain responded, his response was thus far not satisfactory. Gov. Bush has not responded. Hence, there is no reason for 80-20 to take a position in the Republican primary at this time.
3. The battle conditions in CA's primary are ideal for APAs. The primary is OPEN. That means voters, be they D/I/R, can cross party lines to vote in the presidential primary. In most other states, Independents may not vote in a primary. In addition, D., R. & Reform Party members are permitted to choose between candidates of their own party ONLY.

The OPEN provision triples 80-20's political clout in the CA primary. It means we, whether D/I/R, may all vote for SENATOR BRADLEY in CA.

Other favorable battle conditions include:

1. Voter turn-out in a primary is low, normally not even half of the general election, and
2. In a general election, voters choose between two major candidates, while in a primary, voters choose between 6 major candidates, two from each party.

In other words, while the general voter turn-out will be low and spread thin between many candidates, the APA votes will concentrate on SENATOR BRADLEY** and help him win, especially in CA.

When our political system recognizes that we have learned how to use "carrots and sticks," politicians will compete to attend to our LEGITIMATE concerns. We don't ask for much. Just NO DISCRIMINATION.

80-20 has the will, the dedication, and the political know-how to acquire a HISTORIC political clout for YOU. It is, however, only as strong as YOU. May we count on YOU to vote for BRADLEY. Whether you vote in CA or other states, tell us YES.
