The only tall mast ship of the Barquentine class owned and operated by
the Indonesian Navy, KRI Dewaruci, will participate at the International Operation Sail 2012 to commemorate the mark of the two hundredth anniversary of the war of 1812 and the writing of US National Anthem “the Star Spangled Banner”.
The series of  signature event will comprise of naval ships, tall sailing ships and air shows featuring the United States Navy Blue Angels. The vessel will be participating from 17 April to 6 July 2012 in USA and from 11-14 July 2012 in Canada. A number of ports will be visited among others are New Orleans, Louisiana; Miami, Florida; Charleston, South Carolina; New York; Norfolk, Virginia; Baltimore, Maryland; Boston, Massachusetts in USA as well as St. John in Canada. A tradition of operation sail started in USA with the 1964 World’s Fair in New York City and Continue for the 1976 Bicentennial of the United States, the 1986 Centennial of the Statue of Liberty, and the 2000 Millennium Celebration. KRI Dewaruci was built in Germany and launched in 1953. The name represent mythological of Indonesian god of truth and courage. Her based is in Surabaya, Indonesia on the Java Sea.
Recently Dewaruci serves as a goodwill ambassador for Indonesia to the rest of the world and as a training vessel for naval cadets. Expectedly through the event, Dewaruci will bring Indonesian hospitality by among other presenting various Indonesian cultural activities as the medium of promotion for tourism and Indonesian culture. During the taxi, public are mostly welcome to be on board and the KRI Dewaruci will be open for public visiting. Visitors will also have the opportunity of interacting with the talented Indonesian young sailors.
