The Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism & Creative Economies has succeeded in creating a floatto help regain Indonesia’s exotic presence in Pasadena’s
123rd Rose Parade. The float, “Wonderful Indonesia,” was awarded the President’s trophy for “Most Effective Use and Presentation of Flowers” out of 43 float participants.
Internationally acclaimed float designer Raul Rodriguez has celebrated his 500th float design with the two unit float featuring Indonesia’s Garuda and a welcoming dancer from the city of Pagar Alam.
Tourism in Indonesia has become an important part of Indonesia’s economy, and is also an opportunity to open more trade and business on an international level. While tourism has increased in the last couple of years, tourism from America has been quite slow.
The Indonesian Minister of Tourism & Creative Economies, Ms. Mari Elka Pangestu, has decided to reintroduce Indonesia to Americans with a blooming float that combines tradition, pageantry, lush color, and elegant artistry. Accompanying the float will be Indonesian folk dancers, float designer Raul Rodriguez, two flower princesses from Pagar Alam, and Indonesian Representative in the Miss Asia USA Beauty Pageant Meeghan Henry.
After a 15Â year hiatus from the Rose Parade, Indonesia would like to take advantage of this year’s theme, “Just Imagine”, and ask that people seeing the float imagine themselves in “Wonderful Indonesia.” The float’s name, “Wonderful Indonesia”, is no understatement as the float embodies the rich culture of Indonesia’s more than 300 ethnic groups with a 30 feet high and 18 feet wide float.
Greg Asbury, Special Representative for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Republic of Indonesia, expressed at the IABC- hosted event that tourism “opens the door, and leads the way to trade investment” with Indonesia and the U.S.
IABC, the Indonesian American Business Council, hosted an event at the Fiesta Parade Float Assembling Location in Irwindale on December 29 to show support of Indonesia’s involvement in the Rose Parade and to also honor some of the key people that made the float possible.
Along with KJRI-LA’s Consul for Economic Affairs and Tourism Edi Suharto, Deputy Director of International Promotion for America & Pacific Region Vinsensius Jemadu and “Wonderful Indonesia’s” Event Organizer Adria Zinnianti attended the event to thank everyone that helped make the float possible and even enjoy an authentic Indonesian lunch.
IABC President Riff Wiguna thanked Deputy Director Vinsensius Jemadu by performing a gratitude ceremony by cutting the top of the Tumpeng and offering it to him.
