ICAA Wushu Team
By: Bryant Irawan

The ICAA Wushu Team instructed by Teddy Yusuf also includes a brawny Lion Dance Team instructed by Mr. Phelie Djie and Michael Lee. Together the Lion Dance crew and the Wushu team put a breathtaking performance anywhere, anytime. Although they might have talent, all of the members have practiced and practiced for a few years to reach their goal of setting an extravagant performance for everybody of all ages. The team practices every Saturday and Sunday starting from 3:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. In Duarte Inn. Along the way, you will build a more durable body and will remain healthy while meeting new people and acquaintances. You will then be able to perform Wushu either with the Lion or without. The usual Wushu performance consists of routines of weapons and/or basic fist and kicking techniques.

The Lion Dance was originally started in China to scare bad luck and evil. The Lion Dance can usually be seen near Chinese New Year to start a fresh and prosperous year. The Lion was thought to be an agent from heaven sent down to protect, or scare away any mischief going on. However, the Lion fooled around disobeying duties, so its body parts were scattered all over the world. A pea sent then fitted all the pieces together and the lion then started to chase off evil and bad luck once again. Now a day, people all over the world have been competing in Lion Dance tournaments or performing to scare off evil like the original lion did back in China. Opening businesses also hire Lion Dancers to bring in good luck and frighten evil.
